About Tycho Software

Tycho Software is really just a guy with a day-job as a software engineer whose hobby also happens to be coding. (I know, right?) I use this website, and the applications published by Tycho Software, as a testbed to experiment with technologies that look interesting or could fill a useful gap in my current software needs.

Why Tycho?

I love the idea of space, the idea that mankind can evolve past the limitations imposed by this planet and learn to live in a much more challenging environment. The moon is going to play a huge role in getting to that dream, and Tycho is a crater on the moon named after a Danish astronomer from the 16th century named Tycho Brahe.

Tycho Brahe was an interesting guy. He was an astronomer, astrologer, and an alchemist as suited many scientists of his day. He loved empirical facts, and was credited as being among the first to apply scientific methods to astronomy. He came up with his own model of the solar system which was known as the Tychonic system in which Earth and the 5 other closest planets rotated around the Sun, and other "distant" objects rotated around the Earth.

As it turns out, he was wrong.

Software engineering today reminds me a lot of old Tycho Brahe. So many design patterns, development lifecycles, so much time and effort spent trying to convince people what is important, when reality is likely so much simpler. We just need to take a deep breath, step back, and see it for what it is.

Do I have any answers? Nope. Like Tycho Brahe, I'm wrong, too. But in the meantime, why don't you give my software a try and see if it helps you.

Software

My current plan is for all software distributed by Tycho Software to be either Free or Freemium model. Every piece of software will have a core useful component that is not crippled or limited by "nagware", ads, or the like. Some software may one day have enhanced features available for a (very) small fee (hence Freemium).

As sole owner, operator, and developer of Tycho Software, I pledge this to you:

Are the products distributed by Tycho Software open source? Not at this time. This may change in time. We will see what the future holds.
